The complete guide to using the app.

Welcome

Meum is a personal finance app focused on simplicity, privacy and full control over your data. All data is stored locally on your device, and syncing between devices happens through your own iCloud.

First launch

The first time you open the app, it walks you through a short three-step setup.

Entry currency

A screen for choosing the currency your first entry will be recorded in — you can also see every currency the app supports.

Your first account

Add the account you’ll start using the app with: specify its type, currency and starting balance. You can skip this step — accounts can be created later, any time, from the “Overview” section.

Add an entry

The “Add entry” screen is the app’s starting point — every entry begins here.

Choose the account the entry is made from.
Set the currency — Meum supports multi-currency entries, so the entry’s currency can differ from the account’s.
Enter the amount.

After entering the amount, a row of favorite categories becomes active. To finish, just tap the category you need — the amount and category are saved as an entry.

You can log an entry even faster without opening the app from the Home Screen — see “Quick Expense” under Settings → Widgets and quick entry.

Overview — accounts and net worth

The “Overview” screen brings together all your accounts and your total net worth.

Adding and editing accounts — name, type, currency, icon.
Transfers between accounts — transfers between different currencies are supported.
Deleting and archiving — an account can be deleted or archived; archiving doesn’t affect entries already made on it — they stay in the history.

Transaction history

The “History” screen shows a full list of every entry, with search and filtering.

Gestures on an entry

Swipe left — delete the entry.
Swipe right — exclude the entry from calculations: it stays visible in the history but no longer counts toward the balance or analytics. Useful for entries you want to keep as a record without treating them as part of the budget.

Editing

Open an entry to change its date, amount, category or subcategory, account, or add a note. If the entry is multi-currency, editing the amount makes Meum recalculate it using the rate that was active at the time of the entry — not the current rate.

Search and filters

Let you quickly find entries by name, category, account or period.

Analytics

The “Analytics” screen shows a summary for the selected period — the period is set from the dropdown at the top of the screen.

Below it are the analytics blocks you chose to track in Settings (see “Analytics blocks”). You can drill into each block for a more detailed breakdown.

Limits

Set a spending limit for any category over a period. A limit helps you track how much you’ve already spent in a category and cleanly separates it from your overall spending picture.

Recurring payments

A section for subscriptions and recurring obligations: rent, phone, internet, loans and any other recurring payment. Each one has an amount, date, frequency and the account it’s charged to — the app reminds you ahead of each due date.

Important: recurring payments are never charged automatically. When the due date arrives, the entry appears pending confirmation — swiping left confirms the payment was made, and only then does it join the regular history. This protects against accidental duplicates and mistaken charges.

Income and expenses by category

A full list of entries grouped by category, with an optional pie chart for a clear view of your spending and income structure.

Currency rates

The “Rates” screen is for reference: it shows the current exchange rates Meum uses to correctly convert amounts when creating or editing multi-currency entries.

Security

Sign-in with Face ID.
Private screen — hides amounts when the app is out of focus.
Configurable auto-lock timing.

Analytics blocks

Choose which metrics appear on the “Analytics” screen — the set and order of blocks is fully customizable.

Widgets and quick entry

Set up widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen — they show key information without opening the app.

Quick Expense

Meum supports logging an expense instantly via the Action Button or a custom Accessibility gesture — without opening the app from the Home Screen.

Setup

In the Shortcuts app, choose Meum’s “Quick Expense” shortcut.
Assign it to the Action Button (Settings → Action Button) or to a gesture under Accessibility → Touch (for example, a double or triple back-tap).

How it works

Running the shortcut opens Meum straight to the amount-entry screen — the whole path from gesture to finished entry takes just seconds.

Enter the amount.
Choose a category — only favorited categories (starred) are available. “Quick Expense” is built for regular, recurring spending, not rare entries needing detailed categorization.
Choose the account to charge.

The entry appears in your history right away — no need to open the app further.

Important: the entry is recorded in whatever currency was last used in the app. If you need a different currency, change it on the entry itself in “History” afterward, or open the app the regular way.

Categories and icons

Add new expense and income categories.
Tap the star to favorite a category — favorites appear in quick access on the “Add entry” screen, and are the only ones available through “Quick Expense.”
Each category can have subcategories — for example, a “Coffee” category with “Surf” and “Drinkit” subcategories.
Each category and subcategory has its own configurable color and icon.
Categories and subcategories can be hidden or deleted. Past entries under them aren’t deleted — they remain in the history, marked as recorded under a deleted category/subcategory.
The “Order” button lets you sort categories however you like.

Backup

Export a full archive of the app’s data to a file, or import a previously saved archive — for example when moving to a new device, or to keep an extra copy of your data outside iCloud.
